It is said that a journey of 1,000 miles begins with one step. What they forgot to mention is that it also begins with a properly fitted backpack, lots of planning and permission from your wife. My personal journey along the 2,175 mile long Appalachian Trail began in 2010 and will likely continue for many years to come as I attempt to section hike the entire trail before my time here on earth is up. Hike #1 - Amicalola Falls to Woody Gap
August 12, 2010 - I drive 5 hours from my home in Clemmons, NC to the Woody Gap overlook area located near Suches, GA. This is my end spot destination. My plan is to leave my car at Woody Gap, get a shuttle ride to my starting point at Amicalola Falls and hike 28 miles back to my car at Woody Gap. I hope to be back at Woody Gap by early evening on Saturday August 14th. I have arranged for someone from the Hiker Hostel (http://www.hikerhostel.com/) located in Dahlonega, GA to shuttle me from Woody Gap to Amicalola Falls. Here we go...
